Staff 2 Staff

Staff 2 Staff is a brown bag lunch program for SU faculty and staff featuring training and informative sessions which may enhance both your professional and personal life.

To register for a Staff 2 Staff session, please complete the following form and select the sessions you would like to attend. Once you have selected your sessions, please click the Submit button at the bottom of the page. You may also e-mail your request along with your SUID number to learn@syr.edu.

Unless otherwise noted, all sessions begin at noon and end by 1:30 p.m.

Advance registration is required so each Staff 2 Staff presenter may be appropriately prepared. If a situation arises that prevents you from attending, please contact Susan Torrell-Szarek at 443-2099 or e-mail learn@syr.edu as soon as possible.

Waiting list information:

Certain Staff 2 Staff sessions have limited enrollment. When a session reaches capacity, the registration page will change so that you may request to join the session waiting list. You will be contacted at least 24 hours in advance of the session if space becomes available.

Backstage at Setnor: Behind the Scenes of the Music School
Thursday, February 28
Setnor Auditorium, Crouse College
If you are curious about what's happening behind the scenes of the Music School and enjoy student musical performances, then this session is for you. Join Dr. Patrick Jones, Director of Setnor School of Music, for a brief tour of Setnor Auditorium and a short talk about the music program. Immediately after the talk, Dr. Jones will welcome participants to the student convocation, which is a series of short performances by our student musicians. The performances begin at 12:30.

Please note: The convocation runs from 12:30-1:50, and we invite you to join for whatever portion your schedule allows. If you do plan to leave prior to 1:50, please try to exit between performances and sit toward the back of the auditorium.

Interested in learning how The Division of Student Affairs is raising student awareness about alcohol poisoning and how you can help? Join Katelyn Cowen, Health and Wellness Promotions Specialist for Student Affairs, for a presentation of the BE Wise campaign. Susan Smith, a therapist with the Faculty and Staff Assistance Program, will join Katelyn to share alcohol-related resources for faculty and staff. A healthy lunch will be provided courtesy of Healthy Monday Syracuse.

Want to know how we make barns fly and trees grow indoors? Get a glance at Syracuse Stage's 40th Anniversary Season, learn about subscriptions, Flex Packs, and programs. Plus, enjoy a presentation by Syracuse Stage Technical Director Randy Steffen and Props Master Sam Sheehan. They'll be offering a behind-the-scenes look on how sets and props are built and bringing in models of props and sets from past productions.

This workshop is ideal if you want to learn the basics of a digital camera you already own or if you are about to purchase one. Join John Mannion, Light Work/Community Darkrooms digital lab manager, to learn how to use your digital camera and its various features. A representative from MQ Camera will show off some of the newest camera options on the market.

According to the recent Pew Internet and American Life Study, 80% of Internet users are looking for health information. How can you tell if you are getting reliable information or being sold snake oil? Join Janet Pease, Associate Librarian and Subject Specialist for Health and Wellness, to learn search tips and the top 10 questions you should ask when seeking credible health information on the Web. Have you been thinking you would like to take classes but weren't sure how to get started or that you just don't have the time? Back by popular demand, a panel of current adult students as well as representatives from University College and Human Resources will come together to explain how to take classes or earn a degree through part-time study. They'll answer questions related to time management, how to enroll, course availability and schedule flexibility.

Word Styles - Microsoft Word 2010

In this Staff 2 Staff session, you will learn how to create styles in Microsoft Word 2010. A style is text formatting that can be applied quickly to paragraphs and characters. If you repeatedly apply the same formatting to text in a document, you can save a lot of time by creating a "style" based on that formatting. Join Tammy Hnat-Comstock, computer consultant for the Maxwell School and a Microsoft certified instructor, to learn how to create a specific style and apply it just by clicking a button on the Ribbon. She will cover various paragraph and character formats.

Trying to eat healthy? What about your budget? Join Ruth Sullivan, Registered Dietitian for Syracuse University Food Services, to learn to "Shop Healthy on a Budget." Ruth will help you determine what foods are healthy while staying within your food budget. Other things on the menu for this session include "Should I be buying organic food?" and recipe tips. A healthy lunch will be provided courtesy of Healthy Monday Syracuse.

Parenting can be a ride along a road with potholes and curves, steep hills and long, straight stretches. It's a ride that can leave us asking, "Who am I as a parent? How did I learn to be a parent?" and "Who do I want to be as a parent?" Join Kathy McDonald, a certified parent educator for the Children's Consortium, for this parenting workshop designed to help you identify your unique parenting style and give you the tools you need to navigate your way to a successful parent-child relationship.

Pain Management of Chronic Neck and Back Pain
Special Presentation by St. Joseph's Hospital

Do you or a loved one deal with chronic neck and/or back pain? If so, join Dr. Jason Lok, a board-certified physician from St. Joseph's Hospital, for a presentation on pain management of chronic neck and back pain. Specifically, Dr. Lok will discuss what causes neck and low back pain, treatment alternatives, and rehabilitation options. He will also review the benefits of preparing for interventional procedures and answer questions from audience members.
