Family Care Services for Faculty and Staff

Are you wondering what child care/elder care options you'll need in the future?
Are you a manager that understands or colleague of someone that struggles with child or elder care needs?
The Office of Human Resources will partner with the Office of Institutional Research and Assessment this September to conduct a family care assessment survey for all benefits eligible faculty and staff. Join HR and members of the Family Care Advisory Committee to learn about family care services currently available for staff and faculty and to participate in a discussion about future needs.

Dependent Tuition 101

This session is an introduction to SU's dependent tuition benefit and will highlight what you need to know prior to the November application deadline for the 2009-10 academic year. Join representatives from Human Resources and Financial Aid for a short informal presentation and Q&A on the dependent tuition benefit options and how to apply for using them at: Main Campus, University College, Utica College, Cash Grant and Tuition Exchange. This question and answer session is recommended for employees new to the process.

The University's Guaranteed Mortgage Program

The Syracuse University Guaranteed Mortgage Program was initially established in July 1994 to provide eligible faculty and staff an alternative financing method to purchase a home in designated neighborhoods to the east and the south of the main campus. The program was expanded in June 2007 to include portions of downtown Syracuse. Meet Claudia Bement, manager of Real Estate Services and find out how the program works, where eligible properties are located and find out if the program is right for you. Sharon Owens, deputy executive director of Home Headquarters, will also be on hand to explain the University's Home Ownership Grant Program (attendance at this Staff 2 Staff session qualifies as a Home Headquarters orientation session , a requirement of applicants to the grant program).

How to Get Things Moving in your Office

Meet staff from Campus Planning, Design, and Construction and find out how to get a project started, who to talk to and why things may take longer than you anticipated. Facilitators Chuck Bucci, assistant director for New Projects; Chris Danek, assistant director for Academic Space; and Steve Schroeder, assistant director for Planning present this discussion on the process for re-designing your department's space.

Join Carole Watson for a discussion and presentation of new varieties of annual and perennial plants for spring. She'll describe attributes of exciting new plants which are hardier, longer-blooming, and appropriate for both containers and gardens. Sun Print Workshop

Light Work/Community Darkrooms, Watson Hall, 316 Waverly Avenue
Learn to make photographic prints using found objects, digital negatives, and the light of the sun. Bring objects to try out for your sun prints such as: leaves, flowers, keys, and interesting objects with geometric shapes. Use what you learn to plan this activity for people of all ages, including children. Presented by Vernon Burnett, manager of Community Darkrooms. This session is limited to 15 participants.

Insight into SU Affinity Groups

Ever wonder if other SU employees share your interests or hobbies? Join members of SU's recognized Affinity Groups at an "open house" where you can ask questions about current groups and find out how to create your own. Affinity Groups are voluntary, employee-initiated groups of SU faculty and staff that share common interests, issues, backgrounds, characteristics or pursuits. Affinity Groups enhance feelings of connectedness and provide opportunities for employees to seek and offer support to one another.
