Medicare Part D – Prescription Drug Benefit

Beginning January 1, 2006, Medicare beneficiaries can enroll in the Medicare Part D prescription drug program. Participants who retired from SU prior to January 1, 2006 and are in their "five year period" with prescription drug benefits though SU should not enroll in a Medicare Part D plan.

Medicare Part D plan designs are offered by private insurance companies but are highly subsidized and regulated by Medicare. More information, including side by side comparisons of all available Medicare Part D plans in your resident state, is available from Medicare.

As is the case with all of its employee benefit plans, the University reserves the right to modify or terminate the Retiree Medical Plan and/or the Retiree Prescription Drug Plan (including the terms of those Plans described in this summary) from time to time. You only will be eligible for the coverages described in this summary if the Retiree Medical Plan and the Retiree Prescription Drug Plan are satisfied, and the terms of the those Plans will control if there are any inconsistencies with this summary.
