Plan Feature: Disability Coverage
(available to retirees and dependents who retired after 1/1/06)
The University has made the post-65 retiree health plan provisions available to pre-65, Medicare eligible retirees or dependents to allow them the flexibility to move into a plan with no prescription coverage, but lower premiums, according to the following guidelines:
- A Member (either retiree or dependent), if eligible for and participating in Medicare due to Social Security Disability, is eligible to elect the "post-65" retiree health plan provisions, including the post-65 contribution rates.
- For eligible Members who elect this provision, prescription drugs are not covered. Members are encouraged to purchase prescription drug coverage through the Medicare Part D plan.
- If a Member takes advantage of this provision, other covered members of the family who are not eligible for Medicare will remain covered under the pre-65 retiree health plan.
As is the case with all of its employee benefit plans, the University reserves the right to modify or terminate the Retiree Medical Plan and/or the Retiree Prescription Drug Plan (including the terms of those Plans described in this summary) from time to time. You only will be eligible for the coverages described in this summary if the Retiree Medical Plan and the Retiree Prescription Drug Plan are satisfied, and the terms of the those Plans will control if there are any inconsistencies with this summary.
