The SU Advantage
SU and the Community
From community service to athletic events to cultural events, Syracuse University is an integral part of the community. As one of the area’s largest employers, the influence of SU’s dynamic environment can be felt throughout Central New York.
These are just a few examples of the many ways SU impacts the community.
- SU’s Center for Public and Community Service (CPCS) promotes service learning in such projects as literacy, food drives, and an annual “Kidfest” carnival for Syracuse city children.
- Lectures from local and national speakers are open to all. One example is the Sue Ann Genet Lecture Series offered by the College of Visual and Performing Arts in conjunction with the Genet Gallery for costumes and decorative arts. The series brings nationally prominent men and women from retailing, fashion, and costume and decorative arts to speak at Syracuse University throughout the academic year.
- Men and women’s athletics and the Carrier Dome draw thousands to our area each season. Central New Yorkers are proud about our victory in the 2003 NCAA Men’s Basketball finals.
