Open Enrollment is the only time of year for Syracuse University benefits-eligible faculty, staff and graduate assistants to elect or change their coverage for many benefits, unless they undergo a qualifying life event. It’s also when employees must designate their contributions to flexible spending accounts (FSAs) to help lower out-of-pocket expenses on health care and dependent care. Take the time now to review your benefits, then go online November 2-13 to make changes or enroll in an FSA for 2016 via MySlice.
To learn more about the comprehensive, competitive and valuable set of benefits at Syracuse University, join us for an Open Enrollment information session either in person or via live webinar. You may also access recorded benefit presentations designed for you from any computer with an internet connection: Just visit the Open Enrollment website and click on your category – Faculty and Staff, Graduate Assistants, or Part-Time Instructors – and look for the blue button titled “On Demand Webinars.”

All Syracuse University employees are invited to participate in Employee Appreciation Day at the Carrier Dome on Saturday, September 19 when the Orange hosts Central Michigan at 12:30 p.m. Syracuse University employees who attend the game will receive a game day gift, a concessions coupon for a free hotdog and drink, and free parking at the Skytop parking lot.
Syracuse University is a special place to learn, work and live because of each one of you. We hope you will join us for ‘Employee Appreciation Day’ to support New York’s College Team in the Loud House on September 19.
The University employee ticket price is $5, and all employees are invited to purchase up to four (4) tickets at that price. The day will also celebrate our youth with the ‘Take a Kid to the Game’ promotion, which invites all kids 12 and under to attend the game for free when attending with an adult. Employees who purchase tickets online at Employee Appreciation Day tickets can select their seat location and print the tickets at home to avoid lines at the Carrier Dome on game day. The first 1,000 tickets purchased will be for seats on the lower level of the Carrier Dome.
The concessions coupon and parking passes (for those without a University permit) will be available at the Office of Human Resources in the Skytop Office Building during business hours from Thursday, September 10 through Friday, September 18. Employees should bring their game tickets with them to HR when they come to pick up their food coupon and parking pass.
Everyone is invited to the Shaw Quadrangle prior to the game. There, employees can get their Employee Appreciation Day gift and use their voucher for the food and beverage concessions (the vouchers may be redeemed at the Quad or Dome concession stands). Everyone can enjoy the Pride of the Orange Marching Band performance, fan camaraderie, and bouncy houses for the kids.
Prior to the game, a drawing will be held to invite a lucky group of employees to enjoy the game with their game day guests from a private Carrier Dome suite.
To purchase up to four (4) $5 tickets and to order up to four (4) free ‘Take a Kid to the Game’ tickets online, visit Employee Appreciation Day tickets.
The deadline for ticket requests is Thursday, September 17, at noon.
For help ordering tickets and for answers to questions about Employee Appreciation Day, please contact Sarah McAndrew in Human Resources at firstname.lastname@example.org or 315-443-2364. If you have questions about football tickets, please call the Carrier Dome Box Office (315-443-2121, and press 0).
Syracuse University has introduced a new, comprehensive program designed to remove common barriers that prevent people from taking the next step in life while realigning the University’s workforce in a proactive, positive way. For the first time in many years, the University is offering a Voluntary Separation Incentive Program to qualifying non-faculty, benefits-eligible staff. Beginning July 1, staff members whose age plus years of service equals 65 or more will be eligible to receive enhanced benefits designed to help them pursue new opportunities.

Syracuse University’s Performance Partnership process is an annual touch point for an ongoing process of communication between staff members and their supervisors. The webpages that detail the process, explain 2015 enhancements and contain links to the streamlined forms are available for staff members and supervisors.

If you experience a qualifying life event change during 2015, you may be eligible to make changes outside of the annual enrollment period, within 31 days of the event. Under Internal Revenue Service (IRS) regulations, there are certain qualified events related to family or employment status that permit you to make changes to your benefits. Examples of qualifying life events include marriage, divorce, death, the birth or adoption of a child, loss of benefit coverage, or loss of student status. In addition, the IRS allows an employee to drop coverage mid-year if his or her spouse’s Open Enrollment includes new coverage options not previously available.
If you experience such a life event and wish to make changes to your benefits, you must notify the Human Resources Service Center within 31 days of the event in order to make the change. Supporting documentation will be required, and if approved, the change will be effective as of the date of the qualifying change in status. If you do not report this change in status within 31 days of the event, you will not be able to change your coverage until the next annual Open Enrollment.
If you have any questions, please contact the HR Service Center at 315-443-4042.
