Summer Youth Professional Development Workshops
In support of Syracuse University's Youth Employment Initiative, the Office of Human Resources has coordinated development workshops for our summer youth employees. These workshops are intended to provide young people with the professional skills needed to navigate the world of work. Workshops are open to all summer employees ages 16-21; however, since space is limited, only the first 50 to respond will be guaranteed a spot. Workshops offered during summer 2012 are listed below.
- Thursday, June 28, 2012: "Creating the Winning Resume" - 500 Hall Languages, noon to 1:30 p.m.
A hands-on workshop explaining the basics of effective resume writing and taking a look at the different formats and styles of winning resumes.
- Thursday, July 19, 2012: "Mastering the Interview" - 369 Link Hall, 10 a.m. to 11:30 a.m.
A comprehensive look at the professional interview, including pointers for preparing for the appointment, basic interviewing questions and answers, and effective follow-up tips. Also, an opportunity for students to participate in mock interviewing sessions.
- Wednesday, August 1, 2012: "Defining Your Future" - School of Management (103), 9 a.m. to 10:30 a.m.
This workshop will be based on self-discovery and future planning for a fulfilling, successful career. Students will zero in on their strengths/skills and career interests, then apply that knowledge to finding the right college major or job.

Students will have the opportunity to network with community resource and job readiness agencies, local businesses, and neighboring educational institutions to make valuable connections that will serve them throughout their careers.
