Reduced Holiday Work Schedule

University business hours will be reduced from the normal schedule of 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. to 9:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. on December 26, 27 and 28 for exempt, non-exempt and bargaining unit staff.

  1. Despite the reduced schedule, exempt and non-exempt staff will be considered to have worked a full day and will receive their normal pay.
  2. Full-time staff whose normal work schedule is other than 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. should be given appropriate accommodation comparable to the reduced schedule.
  3. Part-time hourly staff whose hours fall within the 9:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. time frame (10 a.m. to 2 p.m., for example) will work their normal schedule, or their hours can be adjusted at the discretion of their managers with no corresponding reduction in pay.
  4. If it is not practical for an area/department to accommodate the reduced schedule due to particular work demands, staff who are unable to participate should be given accommodation in the form of equivalent time off with pay later within this fiscal year when the work load allows.
  5. Vacation or floating holidays taken on December 26, 27 and/or 28 will be counted as full days off and will not be pro-rated based on the special winter break hours.
  6. Payroll should be input as for regular work time using code 010 for hourly staff and 001 for semi-monthly staff. For staff who are unable to participate in the reduced hours at this time and take comparable time off with pay at a later date (see item 5 above), that comparable time should be input as 085, excused with pay. If you have any questions, please call Monica Hobika at ext. 5371.
